Day 38 update
Los had a great rest of the day yesterday and he is off to an amazing start today! Yesterday had some more purposeful movement with his left hand and arm while Sylvia and Emily (sisters) were in there “bugging” him (as sisters tend to do on occasion 😜). Brooke was with Los as well, and with the help of Brooke’s favorite nurse giving Los some rather loud marching orders, Los responded by opening his eyes for a few moments yesterday evening before he dozed back off. 🙌🙏
Los has a bit of thick mucus he’s coughed up every now and then this morning (nurse said it was good his coughs were strong and able to clear the mucus). But x-rays look good and clear. To help break up mucus, she turned on bed vibration and RT cleared his secretion in throat / chest with suction devices. Doctors will keep an eye on this mucus build-up and continue to manage.
Los started to really move during the bed vibrations (legs and arms and hands all bending and grabbing at sheets, and for the first time we have seen — Los lifted his head up off his pillow in conjunction with bending his legs and propping himself up a bit with arms all at the same time with a fluid motion — as if he was doing a sit-up crunch movement to try and get up out of bed!!). His eyes were still closed during this, but it seems he is really starting to come into a semi-conscious state! 🙏
When doctors came in shortly after the “sit-up” movement, Los opened his eyes for them, lifted his head off the pillow again for a third time this morning and turned his head towards them to the right. Eyes stayed open for a minute before dozing back off as he laid his head back down on pillow. Doctors seemed to really like seeing Los’ knee bend movements and eyes opening for a bit on their own. It is so amazing to see God’s miraculous hand at work. Please be praying that this awesome trajectory can continue in the hours and days ahead!! 🙏
Los managed fever pretty well last night and this morning — hovering between 100-101 range.
CPAP on for a few hours yesterday. Going to turn it back on today and see how he does.
White cell counts down to 9 today. Looking good there once again – praise the Lord!
The positive trajectory is encouraging to see, and we’ll keep praising and thanking the Lord for these continued daily “wins”.
Thank you all so much for the continued prayers and support of the Bentley family!
Let’s go, Los! 💪🙏
Also, in addition to the continued prayers for Charlos…. Brooke Bentley would like to put out another prayer request for us all to be pouring into in the days and weeks ahead — for Dan Luong. Dan, another local Dana Point community member, devoted husband, and father to three young children was struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking his dog in his neighborhood (suspect yet to be found). Dan is currently in the next room over from Los, with similar injuries and with a similar long road to recovery. Please keep Dan, his wife and their three sons in your prayers. 🙏🙏
