Since Los landed here in Colorado last Thursday, it has been a busy and productive time for him with help of a lot of wonderful new staff and caregivers.
Work began first thing Friday morning with getting fit for his custom wheelchair, which he absolutely loves because he can get out of bed, get fresh air, enjoy some sun, and just get moving.
Charlos also had physical therapy (PT), and occupational therapy (OT) sessions Friday and seemed to really enjoy those. The team also began the process of ‘trach weaning’ by sizing down his trach tube. We, the family, were put on training notice saying that if we were willing to do certain required classes, we could wheel Los around the hospital and outside on the campus to parks and water features. We were all in, and began our training and testing Saturday. Now three of us are two signatures away from being ‘certified’ and Pa and Gigi begin their training journey Tuesday!
Everyone is so excited and relieved we are here at Craig and we are all finding out why this facility is so highly spoken of. Charlos shows definite signs of relief and enthusiasm with the professionals he is working with and their kind, caring spirits that encourage him to push forward and the willingness they show to help him get there. Charlos is very glad he can get out of his bed and into his chair simply by asking us or one of the staff and they are more than willing to get him changed and moved right away.
Today, after having his trach sized down only a few days ago, had is trach ‘red capped’ which means he is breathing on his own with ‘room’ air and without any additional help or oxygen and he never missed a beat during the transition. The nurse will connect the blow by air over night while he sleeps but we are sure it won’t be long until even his trach will be removed.
The remainder of Los’s day was filled with OT, PT, Speech Therapy, Adaptive Technology and Recreation; all that made us tired just following him around and attending his sessions. Tomorrow and the rest of the week will follow a similar pattern with more PT being added in coming weeks.
Thank you all for your love, prayers, support, calls and visits!
Please continue to pray for:
– Charlos’s increased strength, flexibility, and consistent recovery of the more affected areas
– Wisdom and understanding for all of the medical staff here working with us and with Los that they will have correct insight of Charlos’s needs and may prescribe the most effective treatment and therapy
– Pray also for strength and endurance through this journey that we will not grow weary or discouraged but that we may rest in the Lord, push forward in faith, while being content with the timing and results of Los’s progress!
Thank you with many blessings,
Charlos’s Family
