8:30am doctor update June 4th

Vitals continue to be stable, and overnight they were able to keep slowly weaning Los off the Dex (sedative). The “storming” is still there a bit. But mellow enough to continue to wean off the Dex slowly today — with the main goal to continue to find the right ratios of the weaning of the Dex in conjunction with the meds designed offset/subdue the storming.

Los is squeezing his left hand more this morning (separate from the storming). He is also moving his left foot when you tickle his toes. (Chase came in and tickled his dad’s toes, saw movement, and Chase did a big smile 🤗). We are hopeful and praying that these initial small signs of more “purposeful” movement continue to progress through the day today (without any major storming).

X-rays from this morning continue to show Lungs looking good and pretty clear.

X-ray do show a bit of a backup in the colon.

Starting to get a few meds orally. They just want to make sure the colon clears so nothing (meds and feeding tube) starts to come back up due to backed up colon.

White blood cell counts are up a bit from yesterday. Doctor explained the biggest risk in ICU (once patients are stabilized) is infection. (Which white blood cell counts going up can signify potential infection). So the doctor has ordered ultrasounds, trauma / skin specialist to come in today for full body inspection to see if they notice anything (since Los himself can’t yet tell us if anywhere specifically hurts). It is comforting to know this close infection monitoring (proactive / preemptive approach) is being taken by the doctor. He explained if the specialists don’t see or notice anything today themselves, and the white blood cell counts continue to creep up — he said he can add in some antibiotics to play it safe / as needed. They will continue to study and keep a close watch on that item.

Other than that, doctor was pleased with progress and Los being pretty comfortable / not storming much with Dex continuing to wean this morning.

Specific Prayer requests:

That storming continues to diminish as sedation continues to wean.

That Los’s movements continue to be “purposeful” and he continues to react to stimuli.

That white blood cell counts stabilize.

Praising Him!! Keep the prayers coming!!

June 4th afternoon update:

Overall presentation looks better. Los’ Dex is up to 1.3 from .7 but Dr says that with new med regime will show improvement in the next 2-3 days. His nurse Carly said the ‘storming’ we saw today seems to be following the same pattern as yesterday so we should see her reducing his Dex as the day progresses.

Also, this morning’s ultrasound of his right leg showed no blood clots!
