June 6th – 9am update
Another night of good rest. Night nurse (Michael, a strong believer, who was watching and praying over Los last night) explained that what Los continues to need right now is quiet and rest. Explaining to not be actively trying to get Los to wake up when in the room visiting…. That we need to trust in God’s timing, encourage quiet peaceful rest and healing right now, while nurses and doctors work with the sedation / meds / CPAP ratio levels each day.
Wound care team took out a few stitches and staples and confirmed all looking OK and healing as expected on cuts/lacerations.
Overnight Dex has lowered down to 0.5 (from 0.7 this time yesterday) and Los is resting comfortably right now at that level.
White blood cell counts (which usually signal possible infection) are down from yesterday!! An answer to prayer there 🙏
RT just did first round of CPAP exercise while fentanyl was on and sedation Dex was still at 0.5 to see how Los reacted out of the gates. Los was getting some breaths in on his own / drawing some powerful deep breaths on occasion. But they were a bit too infrequent, and they switched back to ventilator after 10mins to not tire him out too much. RT said he was still pleased with this initial “warm-up” round based on Dex and fentanyl still going (since those two meds cause “grogginess”). For the next round on the CPAP they are going to turn down Dex and fentanyl to get Los a bit more alert (a “sedation vacation”) before they try the CPAP again.
The goal and prayers for today are for continued rest, trusting in the Lord’s timing on healing, and that the CPAP exercises (unassisted breathing) are productive 🙏
