Charlos Update June 09, 2025
June 9th - Morning update CPAP all day yesterday! They let Los rest on the ventilator overnight. (Nurse equated yesterday’s CPAP performance to Los running a marathon, and that it was good he got some rest overnight to get ready for today’s next CPAP marathon). 💪 Doctor confirmed lungs are still clear, white blood cell counts are good. Fent is off this morning, and they hope it will remain off, which is great! 👍 Dex chugging along at 0.2, which is remaining on for the time being to make sure Los stays comfortable and not agitated by the trach [...]
Charlos Update June 08, 2025
Los had a restful night on the ventilator (taking a break from CPAP to recharge and rest up after his big 8hr “lung workout” yesterday). CPAP went back on around 7:30am this morning and still going strong there. Still in coma, but sedation meds (Dex at 0.2 and Fent level are slightly lower than yesterday) and doctors will continue to focus on unassisted breathing today. Los and the nurses are working through spurts of trach coughing and discomfort (nurses explain its normal reaction to the trach but will require constant monitoring). Once trach and his mouth are suctioned of [...]
Charlos Update June 07, 2025
Yesterday afternoon report is that Los had a solid 3-hr period breathing on his own on the CPAP setting of ventilator! Good progress there. Doctors and nurses are continuing to work to find the balance on feeding ratios. Continued prayers needed for progress there on the digestion side of things. The game plan today is to continue to wean off sedation + keep exercising his lungs with the CPAP setting, alternating on and off the ventilator (Dex as of this morning is down to 0.3, from 0.5 this time yesterday, and Los is resting peacefully — continued forward progress [...]

June 6th - 9am update Another night of good rest. Night nurse (Michael, a strong believer, who was watching and praying over Los last night) explained that what Los continues to need right now is quiet and rest. Explaining to not be actively trying to get Los to wake up when in the room visiting…. That we need to trust in God’s timing, encourage quiet peaceful rest and healing right now, while nurses and doctors work with the sedation / meds / CPAP ratio levels each day. Wound care team took out a few stitches and staples and confirmed [...]
Charlos Update June 05, 2025
8:00 AM Download from the night nurse confirmed another night of rest, stable vitals. The storming from yesterday afternoon (which caused the Dex (sedation med) to have to go back up to 1.3 to settle him down) has subsided. Overnight they were slowly weaning Dex levels, and Los is currently back down to 0.7 on Dex and currently resting comfortably. They will continue that weaning through the day, and study how the other meds help / allow the weaning to continue (lowering fentanyl drip and starting to replace it with morphine doses to see if the morphine can help [...]
